Voter ID Bill, Co-Authored by Bohac, Passes Texas House
AUSTIN, TEXAS- Today, the Texas House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed SB 14 that would require a photo ID to vote. Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) Co-Authored the bill intended to improve the public's confidence in the election process by safeguarding against voter fraud.
"I am proud to have co-authored this important piece of legislation that will help protect the integrity of our elections,” said Bohac. “The only way to protect against voter fraud and ensure free and fair elections is to require a photo ID to vote, just as you are required to present a photo ID to board a plane.”
Senate Bill 14 would require any voter to show photo identification to election officials at the poll before they cast a vote. Voters without ID can cast a provisional ballot, and then can return within six days to present ID and have their ballot counted. Accepted forms of ID include a driver's license or other DPS-issued photo ID, concealed-carry weapon license, passport or citizenship papers that have a photo.
