Representative Dwayne Bohac Announces Groundbreaking for New Stormwater Detention Basin in Spring Branch

HOUSTON, TX – State Representative Dwayne Bohac is pleased to have participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Briar Branch Detention Basin which will provide significant flood protection for the communities in and around Briar Branch Creek in the Spring Branch community.  Bohac worked alongside local residents, civic leaders, and various organizations in the advocacy of a new detention basin in the area as part of a “3 point plan” to address flooding along the channel.

"In particular, I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of neighborhood residents Ed Browne, Virginia Gregory and Lois Myers for their tireless effort in championing and advancing real solutions to flooding in our community along the channel."

"With the construction of this detention basin, along with improvements to the Briar Branch Creek channel itself (which may include widening and/or deepening the channel) and other conveyance improvements on the horizon, Spring Branch will benefit from critical flood relief measures that are desperately needed in the Briar Branch Creek watershed," said Rep. Bohac.  "Throughout my career, I have focused on improving our local quality of life in District 138, and helping to mitigate flooding has been a big part of that.  I am proud that these improvements were developed out of a partnership with residents, civic leaders, stakeholders, TIRZ 17 and elected officials working together to make our community a better place in which to live and work."

The basin provides a total volume of 44.4 ac-ft. and is the first phase of the planned improvements for the Briar Branch watershed. The detention basin is designed to provide flood damage protection and to maximize the benefit of other planned improvements within the Briar Branch drainage area. Subsequent phases include Phase II improvements to the tributary itself and Phase III storm sewer conveyance improvements in the immediate area of Briar Branch.

On November 6, 2012, Representative Dwayne Bohac was re-elected to represent House District 138. He is a lifelong district resident.
