Bohac Announces Westview Road Nearing Completion

HOUSTON - Texas Department of Transportation will soon complete construction of Westview Road between Campbell and Bingle Roads in early March, State Representatives Beverly Woolley and Dwayne Bohac announced.

“I called TxDOT because I was concerned about the timeliness of the project,” Bohac said. “Considering the technical circumstances that were experienced with utilities crossing through the project’s right-of-way, the March completion date can’t come soon enough for residents who have to drive on Westview.”

Westview Road is being reconstructed between Voss/Bracher Lane and Campbell Roads as a concrete two-lane residential roadway through Spring Branch. The project which was scheduled for completion in July 2005 replaces a two-lane asphalt roadway with an 8-inch concrete surface which will prove more durable and require less maintenance for the City of Spring Valley.

“I know residents traversing that critical thoroughfare are also anxious to find out when this construction will be completed,” Woolley said. “TxDOT has assured us that things will be better in March.”

Additional improvements include the installation of a storm sewer and replacing the swales with curbs and gutters, Woolley said.

TxDOT is overseeing the rebuilding of the present two-lane asphalt roadway by Hassell Construction Company, Inc., of Houston. The $2.4 million contract was awarded in July, 2004.

Westview Road is a local roadway and not part of the state system of highways. Federal funds were also used to rebuild the roadway and were matched by local government funds.

Safety improvements to Westview Road include widening the lanes to 14 feet, and construction of portions of sidewalk to form continuous sidewalks adjacent to both the east and westbound lanes of the roadway, Bohac said.

Westview Road is located immediately north of and parallel to IH 10-Katy Freeway in the Spring Branch area. The original roadway surface was disrupted during the recent installation of a 54-inch water main. The roadway was temporarily repaired in anticipation of this project, a complete rebuilding of the roadway.
