Bohac Enthusiastic About Committee Appointments

Assignments offer real opportunity for issues important to District 138

AUSTIN, TEXAS – State Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) has been appointed to three committees that will play a pivotal role in crafting policy for the state of Texas and provide a venue for citizens to voice their concerns and support legislation.

Recently, House Speaker Joe Straus announced the 34 standing committees and six procedural committees for the 81st Legislative Session of the Texas House of Representatives.

Bohac was appointed to committees on Ways and Means, Local and Consent Calendars, and Elections. “I am very pleased with my appointments because they will allow me to continue influencing policies that are important to the constituents in my district,” he said.

The committee on Ways and Means is one of the most substantive committees in the House, Bohac added. It oversees all tax related legislation, including statewide tax policies and policies of local taxing jurisdictions. “I have focused a great deal of my legislative career on property tax and appraisal reform matters, and the Ways and Means committee offers a great forum to make real changes that are important to my district and all Texans,” he said.

Local and Consent Calendars, a procedural committee, determines when specific bills will be set for debate on the House floor. This committee oversees hundreds of bills that have local and community impacts, which may not apply to the entire state. Many bills Bohac has championed affect the City of Houston or Harris County specifically, including his work to address problem apartments, flooding, transportation and mobile food vendors.

The Elections committee oversees legislation regarding the administration of elections in the state, as well as the office of Secretary of State. Bohac’s appointment to this committee was prompted by his intimate knowledge of election law and his passion for election integrity, including voter identification issues.

“I am enthusiastic that my appointment to these very important committees will go a long way in helping move a legislative agenda that reflects the views of the people in District 138,” he said.
