Brittmoore Road Improvements on the Horizon

Roadway enhancements will improve traffic flow and flooding issues

HOUSTON, TEXAS–State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) is proud to announce a joint special project between TxDOT and the City of Houston that will bring overdue changes to Brittmoore Road between Clay Road and I-10. The project will widen Brittmoore to a four-lane divided roadway and will include the installation of a curb and gutter system with storm sewers. The existing surface is a two-lane roadway with open ditches. The new storm sewer system will significantly improve roadway drainage and will be augmented by a detention pond, solving chronic flood issues which have plagued the area during heavy rains.

The new roadway will have 14-foot-wide outside lanes, 11-foot-wide inside lanes, and a 12-foot-wide continuous turn lane in the middle. For the first time, Brittmoore will have sidewalks on both sides of the road for the entire length of the project making it much safer for pedestrians to traverse. Existing City of Houston water and sanitary sewer lines along the roadway will be replaced with new lines. Also, new signals will be installed at the intersection of Brittmoore and Hammerly.

The estimated project cost is currently $16.4 million. Federal funds of $8.7 have been allocated to the project, and remaining funds are to be supplied by the City of Houston.

Along with the Brittmoore project, traffic signals will be upgraded along Clay Road from the Hempstead Highway to Beltway 8. The project will provide improved coordination between signals and modernization of traffic detectors. Safety will be enhanced through larger, more visible LED signal heads, and pedestrian accessibility will be improved at the intersections along the corridor. This federally funded project is also being completed through a partnership between TxDOT and the City of Houston.

“I am pleased to report these improvements along Brittmoore and Clay Roads. They will go a long way in improving our local quality of life,” said State Representative Dwayne Bohac.
