Rep. Bohac Receives “Wind Champion” Award For Helping Texas Become the Number One State in Wind Generated Electricity

HOUSTON–State Representative Dwayne Bohac has been named a “Wind Champion” by the Texas Wind Coalition for his impact on growing the burgeoning wind industry in Texas, which is the largest in the nation.

“Wind energy is becoming a major player, not just in the renewable market, but in competition with all energy sources,” said Wind Coalition executive director Paul Sadler in a press release announcing the award recipients. “Our growth is a reflection of the vision of key policy-makers who have created a tax system that encourages growth, a reasonable regulatory climate with minimal siting requirements, and a wise renewable portfolio standard that is now a model for much of the nation.”

The award was given to individuals who took a real leadership role during floor debate, and those who have worked to expand Texas’ wind energy production potential.

“Wind energy is important to our economy and to addressing our energy needs, and I am proud to be recognized as a “Wind Champion” by the Wind Coalition,” said Bohac. “I will continue working with the Wind Coalition to ensure wind generated electricity is a major ingredient in our energy supply which will ultimately lead to cleaner and more affordable energy, while producing thousands of jobs that further stimulate our economy.”

Representative Bohac has made local quality of life a top priority while in office. In addition to his work on wind-generated electricity, Bohac is also a co-founder of the Texas House of Representative’s “Air Quality Caucus”, a bi-partisan group committed to finding clean air solutions. Representative Bohac is also a founder of “Save Our Neighborhoods Northwest Coalition”, and authored legislation that would require state agencies to purchase low-emission and fuel-efficient vehicles to clean Texas’ air.
