State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) is pleased to announce that his legislative agenda adopted by the legislature has now become law after Governor Rick Perry signed off on every one of Bohac’s bills that were sent to his desk. Property tax reform, strengthening public education and neighborhood quality of life ranked at the top of Bohac’s priorities for the 79th Legislative Session.

The Texas Legislature approved a bill this week to name a section of U.S. Highway 290 within Harris County in memory of former President Ronald Reagan. House Bill 540, authored by State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) and sponsored by State Senator Jon Lindsay (R-Houston), designates the section between Beltway 8 and the Waller County line as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway. The bill now heads to the Governor to be signed into law.

State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) recently contacted the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) to request an update on the progress of flood control measures for Brickhouse Gully. The HCFCD is currently working on several projects, including a new detention basin, to reduce the risk of flooding along this vital tributary to White Oak Bayou. Bohac is pleased to report that repairs to the failed concrete walls and the creation of the new basin are on schedule.

House Bill 527, a teacher protection measure authored by State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston), would enhance the penalty for assaulting a public or private school employee. The bill was passed unanimously out of the House Public Education Committee and could soon head to the floor of the Texas House of Representatives.

A food safety measure authored by Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) was approved by the House Urban Affairs Committee and is heading to the floor of the Texas House of Representatives. House Bill 2507 would give clarification to the City of Houston and Harris County on their ability to enforce existing state regulations on mobile food units and roadside food vendors.

State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) filed House Bill 1440 today, an anti-graffiti measure aimed at discouraging would-be offenders from engaging in vandalism. The bill targets delinquents who choose to “tag” public street signs and increases county funding for graffiti abatement and preventive education by increasing fees paid by adult and juvenile offenders.
