Rep. Bohac Files For Reelection To House District 138

Spring Branch, TX—Today, State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R – Houston) officially filed with the Harris County Republican Party for reelection to Texas House District 138.  Bohac, who was reelected in 2010 with nearly 63% of the vote, says improving local quality of life, working hard and delivering results continue to be top priorities.

“I am energized and excited about the opportunity to once again earn the support of my neighbors in District 138,” said Bohac.  “As a lifelong district resident, my top priorities have always been improving local quality of life, working hard and delivering results.  That’s why I have fought for lower taxes and homeowner property tax appraisal reform, worked to improve local flood control efforts, provided for stricter enforcement of apartment standards, passed stricter laws for sexual predators, passed tougher border security initiatives, added a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance back in our schools, authored the state’s “School Supply” Sales Tax Holiday, and worked with local teachers and school board members to improve our local schools.”

This past session Bohac helped pass a balanced state budget without raising taxes. Other accomplishments include passing voter photo ID legislation, “loser pays” tort reform, increased funding for border security, providing more local control for public schools, a resolution calling for a federal balanced budget amendment, stronger gun and property owner rights, an extension of the small business tax exemption, and stronger pro-life measures.  For his leadership, Bohac was awarded the “Taxpayer Advocate” Award from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (TFR), the “Defender of Life” Award from Texas Right to Life (TRL), and the “Courageous Conservative” Award from the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC).

Bohac also joined State Senator Dan Patrick (R – Houston) to author and pass “The Flag Bill” which protects the rights of individuals who want to fly the U.S. Flag or any Armed Services Flag on their private property.  Retired Marine Veteran Mike Merola who was sued by his Homeowners Association inspired the bill. The passage of the bill resulted in Mr. Merola having nearly $20,000 in HOA fines and penalties forgiven and the lawsuit dropped.

Known for running aggressive person-to-person grassroots campaigns, Bohac plans to immediately begin block-walking and phoning new district residents that were added under the court-ordered federal map.
