Buffalo Bayou and Barker Reservoir Watershed Community Engagement Meetings on HCFCD Bond Program Announced

The Harris County Commissioners Court plans to call a flood control district bond election for August 25, 2018—the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey. Registered voters in Harris County will be asked to vote on $2.5 billion in bonds for flood risk reduction projects throughout the county. Community Engagement Meetings began in June, including ones for the Addicks Reservoir and White Oak Bayou watersheds, and now the dates for the Buffalo Bayou and Barker Reservoir watersheds have been announced for July 30th and August 1st.

2018 Harris County Flood Control District Bond Program Watershed Meetings Announced

The Harris County Commissioners Court plans to call a flood control district bond election for August 25, 2018—the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey. Registered voters in Harris County will be asked to vote on $2.5 billion in bonds for flood risk reduction projects throughout the county. Community Engagement Meetings are now being scheduled for each watershed. As the meetings are scheduled, they will be announced on the Harris County Flood Control Department's website. National Flood Insurance Program Town Hall with FEMA This Tuesday

I am pleased to announce that I will be co-hosting an event with State Representative Jim Murphy (District 133) bringing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) representatives to West Houston this Tuesday, June 5th. I invite you and your neighbors to attend and meet with FEMA staff to discuss National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) claims issues and the continued recovery after Harvey. This is a great opportunity to meet with FEMA representatives who can answer your specific NFIP questions and provide valuable information about the rebuilding process as it continues in our community.

Vote in Tuesday's Republican Primary Runoff Election

This Tuesday, May 22nd, is Election Day for the Republican Primary Runoff Election. Polls will be open from 7AM to 7PM. Any registered voter may participate in the Republican Primary Runoff Election—even if you didn’t vote in the regular Republican March Primary—as long as you did not vote in the March Democratic Primary Election.

Early Voting Now Underway for the Republican Primary Runoff Election

Early voting has started for the runoffs to settle unfinished contests from the March Republican Primary Election. Early polling locations will be open this week through Friday, May 18th, and Runoff Election Day is next Tuesday, May 22nd. Harris County voters can vote prior to Election Day during the early voting period at any one of the Harris County early voting sites.

Governor Abbott Appoints Rep. Dwayne Bohac to Education Commission of the States

Governor Greg Abbott recently announced his appointment of Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) to the Education Commission of the States, along with three other appointees. The Governor appoints the Texas delegation of the national compact commission, led by Commissioner of Texas Education Agency Mike Morath and Commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Raymund Paredes.

Hurricane Harvey Recovery Update from the Harris County Flood Control District

In my ongoing commitment to keep my constituents updated on the progress to recover and rebuild from Hurricane Harvey and other recent floods, I wanted to pass along this update from the Harris County Flood Control District regarding sediment removal from Horsepen Creek, Langham Creek and Bear Creek.
