Harris County Disaster Recovery

Following Governor Greg Abbott's disaster proclamation after the devastating storms and flooding this month, the federal government has granted his request for a federal disaster declaration for four Texas counties, including Harris. The action paves the way for federal recovery assistance to begin flowing into the Houston area. Affected citizens in these counties may be eligible for Individual Assistance grants of up to $33,000 from the federal government, and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Governor Greg Abbott today requested Individual Assistance for Harris, Fayette, Grimes and Parker counties from the federal government. If the request is granted by the President, affected citizens in these counties may be eligible for Individual Assistance grants of up to $33,000 from the federal government, and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. If granted, and as further damage assessments are conducted in coordination with local officials, additional counties may be added as they meet federal requirements for assistance.

Governor Abbott Declares State Of Disaster In Texas Counties

As severe weather continues across the State of Texas, Governor Abbott today declared a state of disaster in the following Texas Counties: Austin, Bastrop, Fort Bend, Colorado, Grimes, Harris, Montgomery, Waller and Wharton Counties. Additional counties may be added as the situation develops. Governor Abbott received a briefing at the Department of Public Safety's State Operations Center this afternoon and held a press conference immediately afterwards.
