New Apartment Inspections Net Positive Results

Bohac legislation aimed at reducing crime and making communities safer

In April, the city of Houston completed the first month of proactive apartment inspections in its history. The inspections are a result of bi-partisan legislation passed by State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) and State Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) which required that the city create minimum habitability standards for all multi-family units in the city limits as well as a regular inspection program.

Bohac Recognized for Leadership in Public Education

Texas PTA names him to Legislative Honor Roll

Today, State Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) was named to the Texas PTA’s statewide Legislative Honor Roll for his leadership in public education during the 81st Session. HISD School Board President Greg Meyers, SBISD School Board Member Mike Fallick and Texas PTA Treasurer Lisa Holbrook presented Bohac with an award and commended his long record of promoting policies that help Texas teachers and students, including House Bill 1801 which adds school supplies to the list of tax free items during Texas’ annual “Sales Tax Holiday.”

Bohac Reports Progress with Apartment Inspection Program

Phase one of project is complete

The city of Houston has completed phase one of its apartment inspection program which required apartment owners to register their multi-family properties with the Public Works and Engineering Department. State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) and State Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) worked together to pass the legislation requiring the city of Houston to create minimum habitability standards for all multi-family units in the city limits as well as a regular inspection program.

Bohac Receives “Best of the House” Award by Law Enforcement Group

On January 20th State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) received the prestigious “Best of the House” award by the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas (CLEAT) at the Houston Police Department’s local storefront in the Oak Forest community. The award was presented to only ten of the 150 members of the Texas House for their dedication to supporting and fighting for legislation that will ultimately reduce crime and protect local law enforcement in the line of duty.

Bohac Reports Brickhouse Gully Stormwater Basin in Full Control of Harris County Flood Control District

State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) announced that the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) has now taken full control of the Brickhouse Gully Stormwater Detention Basin, completed roughly one year ago. The basin’s contractor LECON had to monitor and warranty the newly constructed basin for one year after its completion. Recently, HCFCD released LECON from their performance bond after meeting strict design and performance criteria.

State Representative Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) helped Houston Independent School District’s Durham Elementary kick off a guest speaker series designed to teach leadership and build character in the fifth grade student population. The innovative program, instituted by Principal Daniel Breiman, will bring local leaders in to speak to the students once a month and will include elected officials, community and business leaders.

As part of an effort to increase awareness of lung cancer and its devastating effects on this state, State Representatives Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston) and Dr. John Zerwas (R-Katy) honored the efforts of two local doctors who are battling on the front lines to treat the second leading killer of Americans. Lung cancer is one of the most common and deadly forms of this disease and will kill more people this year than all other cancers combined.
